7 IN 10 CALIFORNIA VOTERS DISAGREE WITH FEDERAL ENFORCEMENT STRATEGY IN THE GOLDEN STATE
A poll nearly 5,000 California voters found deep disagreement with the way federal enforcement policy is being carried in every corner of the state.
69% of California voters disapprove of the way President Trump’s immigration enforcement strategy is being carried out in California. Among voters in Los Angeles, 81% disapprove.
73% Disagree with a policy of detaining and deporting undocumented immigrants who have lived here for a long time and have not committed any crimes other than immigration violations. Between six and eight in ten voters in every region of California disagree with this policy, in every kind of neighborhood: 78% of urban Californians, 71% of suburban Californians, and 64% of Rural Californians disagree with this policy.
75% of California voters agree that undocumented immigrants who have been detained have a right to due process and their day in immigration court.
A majority of voters in every region of California disagree with the statement that, “all undocumented immigrants need to be deported from the country,” and agree that ICE raids have unfairly targeted Latinos.
The vast majority of California voters (73%) do not want enforcement activities at schools, hospitals, parks, and other public spaces, and 76% want federal agents to be required to show clear identification when carrying out raids.
